Welcome to Audlem & District Probus

I feel very honoured to have been invited to be your president again, and I will do my utmost to justify your confidence in me.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Geoff Callwood and the outgoing committee for steering the club through what has not been the easiest of years.
Towards the end of last year it became apparent that it might not be possible to form a committee for the forthcoming year and to this end a special general meeting was called in January,to discuss the potential closure of the club.
Given the long history of the club, this would have been a very sad day. Fortunately Geoff Callwood and the committee were able to persuade new committee members to stand and a closure situation was avoided.
The situation the club found itself in ,highlights the importance of members being prepared to stand for office,if only on the basis of helping out existing committee members. Without a committee there would be no club,a loss to everyone.
On a more positive note the club welcomed its first lady member earlier this year,and I look forward to welcoming more new members including of course ladies.
I am also looking forward to the support of,and working with the new committee to 
provide a varied year of speakers, events and of course the annual holiday.
